A C.A.T. Must be Fair

I have to go after Shawn Hannity from Fox News. This youtube video was posted a while ago and I don't know if Hannity has recanted from his position. We Catholics have to stick to Catholic Teaching. It makes the most sense even from a purely secular view.

NFP is nothing like Contraception
In NFP you don't have sex when a woman is ovulating. With the pill you make a woman's body think it is chemically pregnant so that that you can have sex. With a condom you put on a plastic barrier so that you can have sex. Having sex is the focus of contraception. Having a relationship with another human being is the focus of NFP.

Sex is just one of many activities that a married couple engage in together and there is no requirement that they always be engaging in it.

NFP is always open to the possibility of generating life with the act of sex. Contraception is always trying to prevent life from happening.

NFP promotes awareness of a woman's reproductive system. Contraception is harmful to a woman's body and the creators of contraception want women to be ignorant of the effects of contraceptives on their body and on the environment.

CATs should watch out for Fox News
Though I am pleased that Fox News reports on important subjects that the mainstream media purposefully tries to avoid, I think all Catholics should be extra critical of this station because of its Catholic members and their vocation to the media. We are called to rebuke sinners. When Shawn Hannity proclaims false teaching over the airwaves, it is our duty to know the facts and tell him why he is wrong. Keep an eye out for Bill O'Reilly as well. Remember the 3rd spiritual work of mercy. Feel free to exercise it on me if I err.

Thanks for just simply stating the facts as they are. The truth of the matter is often ignored for the sake of doing what we want to. We should just take a step back and look at the facts, as the truth will be made evident.

-keep up the good work.

I have a friend who believes NFP is the fundamentally the same as contraception in that both are used to avoid conception. I believe that NFP is fundamentally different for the reason you stated: it requires the development of the relationship and effort on both sides to be successful; it is therefore, at the core, pro-family and pro-life. Is there anything else I can tell my friend to support this position? Perhaps you would consider another post on this at some point ...
Glad to see you in the blogosphere!
