Pelosi really makes my blood boil sometimes. You would expect that a woman who claims to be an "ardent practicing Catholic" would have had a deeply spiritual experience in meeting the pope.
You would think.
But unfortunately this woman was only looking for a photo opportunity and a catholic political playing card. Why do I say this? Because of the words she spoke after having met with the pope.
Pelosi: “It is with great joy that my husband, Paul, and I met with his Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI today.
“In our conversation, I had the opportunity to praise the Church's leadership in fighting poverty, hunger, and global warming, as well as the Holy Father's dedication to religious freedom and his upcoming trip and message to Israel.
“I was proud to show his Holiness a photograph of my family's Papal visit in the 1950s, as well as a recent picture of our children and grandchildren.”(source)
When I was in Rome at the end of the year 2000, I was sitting about 20 feet away from Pope John Paul II, and experienced such an immense presence of holiness that it was easy to praise God for establishing His church on Peter, and for keeping the Church one for almost 2000 years. You would think that an "ardent catholic" like Nancy Pelosi could have mustered up some words of substance for the press after having met with the 265th successor of St. Peter. You know, maybe say something about Jesus. Why the heck does "global warming" get a mention and yet her Savior, He whom she "ardently practices" knowing, doesn't even get a peep? I speculate that she was angry at not being able to get a photo opportunity that day. Well at least she has her picture from 59 years ago.A couple points about Fox News' commentary of the Papal Pelosi Event.
-I was edified by Bill O'Reilly's efforts to take a more civil perspective in his criticism of Pelosi's intentions. I'm not the biggest fan of Bill because I believe his attitude eclipses the truth that he is presenting. Since Liberals are so wrapped up in emotion, Bill's (ratings generating) scoldings usually provoke liberals to become completely polarized from his position. He creates more enemies instead of converting people to the truth. I think he did a great job on this segment though.
-I am upset when I see Fox News saying things like "It was a Holy Smack Down". This was the case in a Neil Cavuto interview with Denver Archbishop Chaput. The pope is not in the business of "smacking down" democrats. The pope is a teacher who reprimands any Catholic who subscribe to erroneous philosophies that are incompatible with True Catholic teaching. The actions of Fox News trying to use Abp. Chaput for their own Catholic Photo op. have not gone unnoticed here. Chaput has said in the past. "The more pro-lifers tie themselves to a single political party, the less they can speak to society at large"(source)
Don't get me wrong. I applaud the fact that Fox News gives Catholics the chance to speak for themselves on national airwaves but I am still skeptical of their motives. Do they see and appreciate the logical coherence and impeccability of Catholic social teaching, or are they just trying to win Catholic votes over to the Republican party? I'll be convinced of the former once I see a weekly under cover spot showing the body parts of human beings that are thrown into abortion dumpsters. You don't have to be Catholic to recognize that dumpsters are not coffins.

I have labeled this post "Pelosi's Translator was Sleeping" because the True and Logical words of the pope will never penetrate the ears of a Liberal Relativist. Pelosi's translator was her conscience, and it is quite clear that her conscience is sleeping or maybe it has been drugged by her ambition. This is a condition that can only be helped by prayer.
I'll end with the Vatican Radio press release of the Pelosi event.
"His Holiness took the opportunity to speak of the requirements of the natural moral law and the Church’s consistent teaching on the dignity of human life from conception to natural death which enjoin all Catholics, and especially legislators, jurists and those responsible for the common good of society, to work in cooperation with all men and women of good will in creating a just system of laws capable of protecting human life at all stages of its development." Humm, makes me wonder if Pelosi attended the same meeting. Keep Praying and Blogging everyone!

Yep... there is definitely a disconnect between the two parties attending this private meeting between His Holiness and Speaker Pelosi. Perhaps Pelosi's press release was intended to allow some wiggle-room for her, around what actually took place. Either way, the Vatican press release, given the Speakers' lack of 'head-of-state' status, is quite telling.
I agree with you, too, with the tack that Fox News appears to be taking relative to conservatism and the Catholic Church. The Church, and Catholicism in general, will likely loose some standing in the eyes of the public at large, and in the eyes of the faithful, thanks to the apparent ties that are being created between Fox News and leaders in the Church. Granted, it's not easy for the Church to get that much publicity, and I do think some good may come of it. However, this connection should be thought of as a wild animal, and is not to be trusted.
